I just discovered that you cannot import your own full snapshot.

I am now wondering what the intended purpose is of the snapshot functionality is, if it is not intended for complete backup and restore of an environment if and when needed.

Anyone have some insight regarding this?

Thank you for the feedback, happy to relay that back to the team.

To provide more clarity on the backend service, we can also take a snapshot of the workspace to be cloned to a different workspace or to be re-applied to the same workspace. So a beneficial use case for you is that if you expect major changes in your workspace due to integrations for example, you can always raise a support ticket for us to take snapshot for you prior to the changes, so that you can revert to the snapshot if needed.

Hi!

Usually customers use the full export functionality in order to get a daily snapshot stored locally as part of their IT requirements. For data migration purposes, SAP LeanIX has a cloning service through our support team to migrate the data (and configurations) for you. However, this is mainly applied to ‘’sandbox to production’’ migration scenarios.

If it is the case that you are trying to bring data from a PoC/demo environments, I would recommend to discuss this with your onboarding manager or customer success manager to validate if we can support here.

Seems like wrong terminology use from my perspective.

From an IT and data management perspective it is a saved state of a system at a specific time for backup purposes.

Please call it what it is then, an export intended for compliance purposes.

Hi Mohamad, is there an easy way to automate the daily export from LeanIX?

Hey Seb,

I believe some customers are using our APIs to have a daily export into their databases, you can check our open APIs , including export, here: https://eu.leanix.net/openapi-explorer/?urls.primaryName=Pathfinder. I hope that helps!
