How are Tech category from SAAS catalog defined ? Most use "Application Hosting"

Hi,

One of our main goal is IT components & Application rationalization and we would like to use business capability and tech category to find our applications that might answer the same need.

We found the SAAS catalog a great and quick way to enhance the completeness and accuracy of our data.

Unfortunatly, the tech categories embedded in the SAAS catalog are often not helping as “Application hosting” is the tech category chosen.

Is there a plan to have the SAAS catalog updated with better tech category data ?

Examples: Evenium  fit far better in “communication”, kiriba in “finance”, ...

Regards,

Guillaume

Hi

I just wanted to create an articel about the same topic. We see absolut no value in adding everything SaaS as “SaaS Hosting” IT-Component.

Unfortunately, this process isn't ideal because it creates the IT component as a direct copy of the application with the extension "SaaS Hosting" and assigns it to the technology category "Application Hosting." This approach provides no added value, as all SaaS applications end up under "Application Hosting."

We would prefer, for example, when SAP Cloud Analytics is linked through the SaaS catalog, not to create the IT component "SAP Cloud Analytics SaaS Hosting" assigned to "Application Hosting." Instead, we want the IT component to be "SAP Cloud Analytics" with the assignment to "Data Analytics & Visualization." and the subtype SaaS. Otherwise, our tech catalog becomes meaningless with numerous SaaS entries all under the same category.

Does others already have the same oppinion? What are your experiences?

I think the intention here is that the LeanIX catalog just creates an entry for application hosting and it would be down to a business to add additional IT components (e.g from CMDB integration) to add detail on which specific features (with their respective Tech Category) are used/paid for.

The application itself has it’s own “product category” assigned.

If you don’t like this approach you can turn off creating the IT Component relationship when linking to the SaaS catalog as per instructions here: SaaS Catalog (leanix.net)
