I'm confused about the relationship between Application Lifecycle and Business Capability dates in LeanIX.

When I fill out an Application fact sheet, I can already specify the Lifecycle status (Plan, Phase In, Active, Phase Out, End of Life). However, when I map that same application to a Business Capability, the system asks me to enter 'Active From' and 'Active Until' dates again.

For example, if a customer uses SAP and has already filled in the Application Lifecycle, why do I need to specify these dates again at the Business Capability level? What's the purpose of having both, and what's the difference between them? The distinction isn't clear to me

Hi,

I think that active from and active until dates aren't commonly used in this case besides the example mentioned above by Justin.

I think it would be useful to keep in mind that active from and until is a LeanIX mechanism existing for all relations between fact sheets and does not necessarily reflect something for all those relations.

It just acts as a way to say that X fact sheet type is connected in this context with the Y fact sheet type only for a specific time period.

The business capabilities active dates are used for interim applications which might support a business capability for a given time. For example, if an application will be retiring in 1 year, you might have that reflected on the direct relation to a capability to enable you to see in reporting X number apps ending support or entering. In short it’s just another granular view point.

Thank you for both the answer @justinharclerode and @GiannisAnt

I understand about interim capability and makes sense.

now going back to relationship between fact sheet , how does that work ? Possibly more insights in reports ?

Well the main feature here is that relationships that have not reached their Active from date or they have surpassed their Active Until date won’t be shown in diagrams and reports.

You will only be able to see them in the inventory.
