I have my key applications listed in the inventory. I also created a System Context Diagram that shows how data flows between these applications (on paper). Now, I want to create a Data Flow Diagram in LeanIX and expected that the relationships from the diagram would also appear automatically in the inventory. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. (I selected both the applications in the Diagram and also the correct relation between them)

Similarly, if I add relationships in the inventory, they don’t automatically show up in the Data Flow Diagram either.

So, I’m wondering—how can I make these two things work together? How can I sync or connect the relationships between the inventory and the Data Flow Diagram in LeanIX?

As far as I know you only see the Applications where there are active integrations between the Applications, and not based on a relationship (it is not ArchiMate).

Hi, the relationships are from Provider Application→ Interface → Consumer Application. Hence you need an intermediate interface object in between.

One way to achieve this (others may have other suggestions): insert a shape, assign it the Interface type

Then link the objects together, right-click on a relation and Create New Relation.

The first relation will be Provided Interfaces (from your provider app)

The second relation will be Consumed Interfaces (from the consuming app)

Click on the “Updates” on the top right

Clicking on Apply Updates will create the fact sheets.

In your future diagrams you’ll only have to right-click and select the relations you want to display, like interfaces or others.
