Good afternoon,

We would like to enhance method of realizing a TIME assessment.

We decided to customize the way of calculating TIME and add parameters to the way we calculate functional and business fit.

For the functional fit, we have the following parameters: “Business need coverage”; “Future potential”; “User satisfaction”; “Data”; “Time to market”

and for the technical fit: “Reliance on Skills and Subject Matter Experts”; “Maintainability”; “Architectural Alignment” ; “Production stability”.

All these parameters have a specific weight and we then use LeanIX calculation to determine a functional and business fit based on the rating of these parameters

In general, what is your method to determine functional and business fit, are you using some parameters, do you calculate the result outside of LeanIX…?

Happy to hear any feedback on how you have conducted a project of realizing a TIME assessment!

Thank you very much

Thank you for sharing!   We feel lucky to get responses to the basic functional and technical fit questions, but I really like where you’ve gone with this.  I think it will be worth the effort and give a clearer picture of the landscape.

Love the idea. Functional and technical fit attributes always seem strategic on one hand but too subjective on the other. Breaking them down to components and varying weight of them seem like a great approach to limit subjectivity some.

Question along these lines:

How do you approach the assessment of the functional fit when different business user groups have controversial opinions about it? Would you use surveys and assign weight based on the group size?

Hello!

Thanks for your feedback.

Indeed the assessment isn’t an easy thing with numerous stakeholder. LeanIX wouldn’t allow multi input for the same application from different stakeholders, in this case we would probably need to do the calculation outside and have the consolidated result in LeanIX.

This is theoretical because we are still figuring what is the best way to get these input, technical piece would be easier because it would be generally managed by one IT team but for users as you say, we can have several several user group and we need to find the adequate stakeholder that can cover the entier perimeter.

Hello @simonsztabholz ,

how do the factsheet maintainers  deal with that? In our company factsheets are maintained by IT and business people. For the technical fit: How does your IT-Strategy/Objectives influence these values? E.g. If you have a cloud first strategy the technical fit for an on premise Application should be not as good as you’d have cloud application for that.

The functional fit also depends on the department, I can see that by our business capability assessment for pace layering.

I had many discussions and finally we kept the basic Gartner approach.
For the architects your approach is more attractive, but in the end most factsheet are maintained by other colleagues.

Best regards,

Carsten
