Leveraging AI Capabilities | Transforming Enterprise Architecture

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Hope everyone is having a fantastic week. I would like to continue to leverage the Community as a platform to bounce ideas off of each other, and really understand in depth what’s working and what is not working. Adoption, data quality, data governance, and data democratization are all areas that require constant optimization to ensure the success of having an efficient Enterprise Architecture practice. A survey conducted by LeanIX earlier this year revealed that 90% of companies see a comprehensive overview of AI usage in the organization as important or very important.

“AI is already transforming how businesses operate, how they engage with customers, and how people get work done,” said André Christ, General Manager and Co-founder LeanIX.

“When we talk about AI and EA,” said Rouven Morato, General Manager SAP Signavio and LeanIX, “we need to think about making things easy. Simply put, EA tools should make AI easier to adopt, and AI should make EA tools easier to use. Making sure these two elements consistently reinforce each other is essential for any company interested in remaining competitive into the future.”

We're curious to know about a few things:

  1. Are you aware that LeanIX has incorporated an AI Governance model that is part of the meta model extension that allows you to track and manage AI usage, evaluate risks, and assess AI potential (AI Governance Model)?

  2. What are the bold decisions, smart solutions, or transformative strategies that you've been able to implement using the LeanIX AI Capabilities?

  3.  Is your organization mature in processes, and the Enterprise Architecture practice of when AI was adopted?

  4. What type of measurable benefits has AI provided to your environment?

  5. Have their been any limitations or pushback on utilizing AI to help amplify your Enterprise Architecture practice?

At your convenience, please read through some documentation on LeanIX’s generative AI model, and how you can unlock the tangible benefits of utilizing it today: Generative AI

Whether it's a big win, or a difficult challenge you would like to share with the community, your story could really help others here in our community. We look forward to the continued collaboration.

Let’s learn, grow, and prosper together!

Thank you,

Niral Mehta

At the moment, LeanIX introduced AI-related attributes to the Application and Business Capability fact sheet types.

I feel at least one more fact sheet type would benefit from capturing AI potential, AI presence and AI risks - Business Context, and, in particular, Business Process subtype.

This would allow us to be more specific capturing AI penetration than just indicating it on the business capability or the application levels.

As such, we are capturing now all identified potential AI use-cases as Ideas under the enterprise-wide program. Going forward and getting ready to execute, these ideas would be converted into projects based on the bandwidth and priority.

This approach works if you have an enterprise-wide AI program. Otherwise, if AI initiatives handled locally, you may benefit from creating AI-related attribute or a tag for your Initiative fact sheet type.

Niral,

I have recently enabled the AI Governance tools in LeanIX and have started tracking the relevant applications that are AI Enabled (these applications are ramping quickly). Given that AI is larger than just generative AI, the need for further details in those affected facts sheets may require more attributes for specific context. However, we are just starting to understand how governance for AI is going to work long-term and do not have a complete understanding of what information will be relevant for the EA to track. A couple of knowns:

  • LeanIX will be used to centralize application/owners of AI enabled applications.
  • LeanIX will be an ideal tool to centralize any type of AI initiatives as you tie them out to the other parts of the meta model (Business objectives, Organization, Data) to help illustrate which parts of the business are on a road to transformation powered by AI.
  1. What are the bold decisions, smart solutions, or transformative strategies that you've been able to implement using the LeanIX AI Capabilities?

    • We are at an early stage in the AI experimentation process and as I work to build our AI roadmap into LeanIX. We should be able to show how our ‘actions’ are tying out to the larger business strategic objectives, but it’s still early.

  2.  Is your organization mature in processes, and the Enterprise Architecture practice of when AI was adopted?

    • We are relatively new and still maturing (at the speed of light). We still have a lot to learn about our environments and AI.

  3. What type of measurable benefits has AI provided to your environment?

    • At this point, largely productivity gains for those using the AI tools that we have enabled. We have a few other projects on the horizon around analytics that look very promising, but our AI users are working more efficiently and producing higher quality work (according to our survey data).

  4. Have their been any limitations or pushback on utilizing AI to help amplify your Enterprise Architecture practice?

  • There seems to be conflicting desires to move quickly, but also very carefully. Fortunately, our EA practices have been centered around AI education and enabling trusted users to start quickly with some of these new technologies. We are working on strategies to scale the successful ideas/platforms that will come along with value and risk assessments as well as governance and guidelines.
