How LeanIX complement CMDB

We are currently in the middle of our Jira-LeanIX integration journey, and I would like to gather thoughts on how LeanIX can complement our CMDB capabilities.

I understand that LeanIX is primarily an Enterprise Architecture platform that provides a broader, strategic view of the technology landscape. However, our Asset Management team is particularly interested in understanding how LeanIX can add value alongside our CMDB and asset management processes in the future.

The Asset Management team is excited about the potential opportunities and would appreciate any insights, recommendations, or real-world examples of organizations successfully using LeanIX in conjunction with a CMDB.

    Hi Sachin, there are lots of EA capabilities that benefit from an integration with the CMDB. The most common ones: Obsolescence management. Which applications are using software that has already reached its EoL, and how do we organize all processes around that so that our risk surface is controlled? A smart CMDB integration can automatically connect all relevant IT Components to Applications based on the CMDB service trees. (Needless to say that our Aronis ServiceNow connector is such a smart one that automatically detects component dependencies based on the service tree ;-)

    Another huge topic: CI lifecycle management. When provisioning new resources, they can be attached to the correct applications already by design, so that we can detect and decommission orphaned resources that have been built but forgotten (happens more often than we’d think) or when their owners leave the organization and their successor wants to clean up.

    Also: Understanding impact. What happens on business level if a particular server / database / cluster is going down. Which interfaces and processes are impacted, which organizations and stakeholders are affected?

    There are a lot more positive effects of such an integration, but based on my project experience, those mentioned provide the fastest time-to-value and the best balance of effort and net benefit.
