Whether and how to model virtual servers for applications

Hi.Any on-premise application (let’s call one here ABC) is typically hosted on one or several physical or virtual servers (let’s have here 2 virtual servers SRV123 and SRV456). These servers have often but not always the same OS (let’s say here Windows Server 2019 for both SRV123 and SRV456) and different purposes with different components (let’s say here SRV123 is the web application server with IIS 10.0 and SRV456 the database server with SQL Server 2019). They also run on different pieces of hardware or a single one (let’s say here that SRV123 and SRV456 run on 2 different Dell PowerEdge R550 Rack Server units).In my example, Application ABC would have relations with the following IT Components in LeanIX:Software: Microsoft Windows Server 2019 + Microsoft IIS 10.0 + Microsoft SQL Server 2019, Hardware: Dell PowerEdge R550 Rack Server.But SRV123 and SRV456 servers actually appear nowhere in this model:Of course, they’re not Applications, They could be IT Components, but none of the s

Visualizing Options Assessment

Hello Community,has anyone experience with dealing of options assessment results in LeanIX?Le me explain in more detail:You are dealing with lots of Business Capabilities in LeanIX (amount n) and due to best of breed you have same amount (n) of applications in the portfolio.On the other hand you know about an application supporting more than one business capability - an integrated solution. How to visualize the option that this integrated solution (not implemented only based on capabilities) is providing as it might be the successor for multiple active applications!The successor attribute is too hard wired for this because we are talking about an option and curently there is no initiative planned/release.How would you deal with this requirement in LeanIX (or is LeanIX the wrong tool for something like this)? Best RegardsThomas

Does anyone know where I can find reference documentation on the Advanced tab for Portals?Portal (leanix.net) - this provides awareness that it exists, but I cannot seem to find any documentation referencing the valid JSON structure or values.

Portal - Add functionality to the "Request application"

Hi We are doing a bit of discovery into the portal now, and have an idea, at this stage, to smooth out the process for end-users needing access to an application. Has anyone used the “Request Application” to anything useful? Currently - it simply points to the documentation for the self-service portal - I have a few ideas to either trigger a request in ServiceNOW, either by prepopulating an email running through the think-automate, or using Power Automate to streamline the process to get access to an application. Has anyone done something similar and would be generous enough to share some insights? BRTore

Tracking multiple divisions migrating from interface 1.0 to interface 2.0 at different times

Hello All! We have multiple business divisions using a single interface (Interface 1.0) today.A new interface (Interface 2.0) is being deployed and it is expected that the divisions will migrate to the new interface (2.0) over time and sequenced.What is the best way to track and report on the progress of the migration of divisions over time?I have added a new relation to the Interface factsheet for User Group factsheets. This seems to provide the necessary tracking and reporting based on the Active From and Active Until relation data. The same Provider application is providing the interface to consuming applications. Just wanted to ask the community to see if there are any other ideas out there or any concerns with adding this new relationship to the factsheet. Regards,Mark

Field level restriction for edit and view

Portal: How to add a Diagram to the Factsheet detailed view

Hello,In my company, for the Business Context/process factsheet, we add as a resource type the related BP diagram. We do it under tab resources, select Diagram ( Link, File , Diagram options available) and then select the Free Draw diagram we want to assign to the factsheet.In the BP portal, in the detailed section, we would like display the link to the Diagram assigned to that Business Context/process Factsheet. It seems that only resources added under “Link” can be shown in the Portal.Does anybody know how to add a Diagram so it can be displayed detailed section of an Factsheet in the Portal?Cheers, Silvia

My company wants to implement it, but I still have doubts

Hello, my company intends to implement the LeanIX tool, but we still have some questions about how the platform works and some questions like: how long does the implementation take (months? Years?), what type of integration does it have with Signavio? Is there any difficulty in the implementation? Is the platform itself automated, or is it quite manual (data processing and analysis, report completion, etc.)?

Calculated Field or Derived field

Hi Team,I am populating Factsheet Type = User Group with Organization Data and the “Alias” field has details of an organization unit.How can I reference the “Alias” field in factsheet type = User Group in another factsheet type “Application” (field = Business unit) Does LEANIX allow cross factsheet type reference?  Purpose - Identify which applications belong to which business unit.

Can same application plattform belong to several FactSheets?

WIth current Metamodel v 4, can same object be part of several different FactSheets?I.e SharePoint and ServiceNow is both Strategic Platforms and Tech Platforms and Applications at same time. or should thay only be part of ONE FactSheet only?

Matrix of Legal Entities by Business-Unit and Region ?

Hi all,I am doing my first steps in LeanIx but somehow im stuck.I have added two bidirectional self-relations on organizations from LE to Region and from LE to Business-Unit. I am using MM 4.0 and I know that there is something in the works regarding modelling subtypes. “self-relations” are possible, but already with the configuration of labels etc. it feels “inconvenient”.Use-Case: I want to create a simple matrix report that shows the LEs (cells) by Regions (X-axis) and Business-Units(Y-Axis)Problem: I do not have the newly created relations in the x/y-axis settings of the matrix report. I cannot choose “Regions” or “Business Unit” for y and x axis.Since this is conceptually and technically relatively clear to me, I wonder if this “works as designed” or if I am missing something.Thanks, Sebastian.

Integrate Architecture Principles into EAM

Hi all, My team and I are looking for possibilities to integrate our architecture principles into LeanIX. Are there any community members with experiences on succesfully doing so? As of now we've communicated our architecture principles through Sharepoint, but we'd like to have LeanIX as our main source for all Enterprise Architecture related subjects. Right now we're considering to use the Dashboard in order to state the principles, accompanied by a corresponding report. Hereby an example: A text column showing a cloud first principle with a statement that 'SaaS before PaaS, before IaaS' etc., accompanied by a report showing the current status (how much SaaS, on-premise, etc). See screenshot.Any further ideas or experiences on showcasing architecture principles within LeanIX?

Identify redundant applications by kind of "application category"

Hi all,we try to identify redundant appliaction by a kind of application class or category. This categories are no it categories, so we don’t want to use the TBM framework, it is more business like. Examples for these categories are ERP systems, workflow tools, office solutions, etc. Has anybody an idea, if there is an standard framework for these kind of categories which we can reuse and how we implement these requirement within LeanIX EA?This dimension would be an important crtieria additional to business capabilities and tech category, to rationalisize our portfolio.

Importing relations as "Leave empty"

Hi Everyone,I have a question and ofcourse I could create a support ticket for that. As the topic is not too urgent and I wanted to start a topic in community therefore, I thought about posting it here.The topic is the following: for relations we have the possibility to deliberately select, “Leave Empty” and this contributes to the overall completion score of a factsheet (if applicable).Is there a possibility to import relations via excel on multilple factsheets (say application) as “Leave Empty” instead of manually maintaining it?  I hope I can get some positive answers. Thank you in advance.  Best regards.

Hello, Our management are very interesting to have a view of Cost of each application. Costing modelization are quite complexe … some application are CAPEX some are OPEX … some have shared ressources (and shared cost).Who have do something interesting on the “cost” application topic ?

Automated aggregation of survey results from different participants.

Hi Team,I want to check if following use-case is possible to implement in LeanIX for application assessment. 1. Initiate TIME survey in LeanIX. Participants will fill up survey and we would get functional fit and technical fit values.2. Collate/aggregate/average all survey results for particular application and create average values for functional fit & technical fit3. Based on above values suggest 4R classificationout of the above steps I could create 1st step and I could get individual participant's average score for functional fit & tech fit. But I need to know if I can calculate average score from multiple survey's functional & tech fit scores.

IT Component Lifecycle dates - do I need two sets of dates?

Building on the definitions of IT Component Lifecycle dates and assuming these dates are provider dates, then I have a dilemma about understanding which IT Component is currently in use. Consider this: I add an IT Component, say MyFirewall version 1. I use the lifecycle catalog to add the provider lifecycle dates. I notice MyFirewall v1 is in Phase Out. I clone the factsheet and update the version number, and make MyFirewall v2 the successor of MyFirewall v1. I use the lifecycle catalog to add the provider dates for MyFirewall v2 - it is in the Active lifecycle state.At this point I don’t know which MyFirewall version I’m using in Production because the dates are the provider dates, not my organisation’s lifecycle dates.It seems to me that using the Lifecycle Catalog only makes sense when the IT Component supports an Application (which gives you your organisation’s lifecycle dates).Do I understand correctly or am I missing something?

Searching for apps that share the same vendor

Hi all, I have a new question:Say we have applications made of IT components and each IT component is linked to a provider (i.e. vendor).Can you search in the inventory for all apps that have at least 1 IT component from a specific vendor? I have tried but I could not find how apart from accessing the relationship explorer for the provider I am interested into, but I’d like a search or a report instead.

IT Component Lifecycle State help text

The help text on the IT Component lifecycle dates seems to imply these are dates when the organisation is doing something with the component rather than dates when the provider is doing something.  It seems to me, given the Lifecycle Catalog supplies provider dates, that the help text needs to be reworded, e.g.Plan - The component has been announced by the provider Phase in - The component is in beta or early access Active - The component is generally available Phase out - The component has reached end of support. Extended support may be offered by the provider. End of life - The component is end of life and no longer supported by the providerIs this the correct interpretation of the dates provided by the Lifecycle Catalog? Has anyone adjusted their help text and is willing to share their wording?
